Valle Verde in the early days.

Valle Verde Arabians began in 1976 with the purchase of Nikki Bask (Ibn Bask x Sirifa). The dark bay gelding was shown successfully in Sidesaddle and English Pleasure, earning a Regional Reserve Championship and two Scottsdale Top Tens with Hubert Bartels. Another important purchase, in the year 1980, was Bright Escapade, by *Elkin out of the *Mustafar daughter Mustabright. Bright Escapade was shown to several regional and Class A wins by Linda Kinney and Hubert Bartels as a talented English and Park horse, much like his half brother, National Champion Park Horse, Houston.

Gerlind Bartels had long admired both the breeding programs of Emkay Arabians and Varian Arabians. So it was no surprise when Emkay held an open house that the farm's foundation mare was purchased. This mare was Emkay Tamara, sired by Amerigo out of the mare Tammye. Tamara was in foal to Bomb Bey (by U.S. National Champion Stallion Bay el Bey++). Tamara's dam was also later added to the broodmare band at Valle Verde.

Both Amerigo and Bamby would be cornerstones for the breeding program, along with *Bask++ and Bay el Bey later on.

In 1986, their first stallion was purchased - Bomb Bey. The charismatic bay stallion would become yet another cornerstone for the breeding program. Bomb Bey was by U.S. National Champion Stallion Bay El Bey++ out of the imported English mare, *Saraha. Sadly Bomb Bey died of a heart attack in 1992 at the age of 13. He did, however, leave a number of offspring to carry on for him, including Bombara, Bey el Rih, Bright Bey, and Bombeya. Bomb Bey exemplified the beauty and athleticism the fledgling breeding program emphasized.

» Facilities

Facilities were expanded with the addition of Banaske-Tu in 1990 and the many new foals at the farm. Today, Valle Verde Arabians boasts of more than forty acres, numerous barns, five turnout pens, a bull pen, a wash rack, and two large pastures. Trails are abundant and back up to the Tanque Verde Wash. The facility is covered by Cottonwood and Mesquite trees.
